Music Director/Orchestra Conductor
The Tecumseh Pops Orchestra is proud to be under the baton of Greg Smith, who is in his third year as Pops Conductor & Music Director. Greg is also serving his third year as Tecumseh High School Orchestra Director, where he directs two high school orchestras, THS Symphony Orchestra and the Chamber Orchestra, teaches high school guitar, and co-teaches 7th & 8th grade orchestra with Tecumseh East & West STEAM Orchestra Director, Amy Marr. Greg is a graduate of Baldwin Wallace Conservatory of Music, Cum Laude, with a Bachelor of Music Education, and has worked with community groups such as the New Horizons Band and their clarinet ensemble. Before coming to Michigan, Greg taught orchestra in Ohio at Dover Public Schools and Medina City Schools. While at Baldwin Wallace, Greg played viola for the Baldwin Wallace Symphony Orchestra and was in various chamber ensembles. He also gained experience as a pit orchestra director during the play, “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum.” There he learned the importance of working within a strict rehearsal timeline and became “… a very clear conductor with wind instruments ….” Serving as the Tecumseh Pops Orchestra’s conductor is helping to fulfill Greg’s dream of directing a full orchestra. He has also conducted the MSBOA Mid-Level String Clinic at Chelsea High School. In Michigan Greg has performed with the Adrian Symphony Orchestra and the Tecumseh Big Band.
